How to Properly Size Hiking Boots
You’re all set. The backpack is packed, the tent is folded and neatly packed into a small square box, your freeze-dried meals are ready, and you’re going to break out your new pair of Hiking Boots from a reputable brand, like Merrell or Keen.
You didn’t cut any corners this time by ordering boots from dubious Chinese re-sellers, you went to a reputable store and ordered some true, rugged boots that will last you several seasons.

And they don’t fit. The trip is either ruined right now, or both the trip and your feet get ruined later. What a disaster.
We’ve been there, now let us guide you through this step-by-bloody-step guide on how to properly choose a pair of boots that fit.
Try the boots out before you buy them!
Feet are like snowflakes… Each foot is completely unique. Your feet aren’t the same either, and most people have one foot shorter by half or quarter of an inch. Measure them out and be surprised.
This is why you shouldn’t just order the size you think you are and hope for the best. It’s much better to try them out in a store, walk a few laps and then buy them.
Wear the socks you’ll wear on your hike when you try the shoes out, don’t come in with extra thin socks and then be amazed that your foot with thick socks doesn’t fit into the shoe.

Buy shoes in the evening
Our feet swell up half a shoe size by night, and you should keep this in mind. The boots that fit like a tight glove in the morning might not be too tight to comfortably wear.
What to do if you buy them online?
Always buy from vendors that have a good return policy, and return them if they don’t fit. There’s no way around it, some shoes that should fit you on paper are either too tight or too loose in practice.
Good brands usually use the same foot molds to make their footwear, so you can be sure that most boots from Columbia will fit alike.
There’s no shame in returning a boot and picking an another one out, and most vendors are used to this.

What if the boots are too tight?
They should be broken in, right? Not really. Hiking boots should feel a bit tight. Only a bit; they shouldn’t feel too tight at all. You […]
Handyman Tools and Gadgets You Never Knew You Needed
No job can be done well without the right tools, and that is especially true if you are a handyman. Whether you’re a professional or just you just love to tinker around the house, you need to have a set of tools in case anything needs repairs. You probably have all the essential tools in your toolbox already – a claw hammer, all kinds of wrenches and screwdrivers, pliers, level, tape measure and of course, the good cordless drill with all the necessary bits.
But just like a woman can never have too many shoes, a man can never have too many tools. Once you start working on repairs and DIY projects, it doesn’t take long to realize that there are very good reasons all those different types of wrenches, pliers, saws, and even chisels were invented. And why you really do need to have the tools to measure accurately, clamp firmly, and create a smooth finish. Which means one more tool is never enough, and as soon as you get a new one you’re already thinking about what you need next.
If you have a thing for tools, and looking to expand your toolbox, check out our selection of tools and gadgets, you will instantly wish you own.
Magnetic Wristband
Has this even happened to you – you set out to hang a picture or assemble a table and end up with a mouth full of nails or screws? Well, this product puts an end to this. This magnetic wristband can keep nails, screws, and even a hammer securely attached to your wrist while you’re working. You can now work on your projects without the frustration of losing your drill bits or your patience.
Leatherman Multi-tool
If you do not already own one of these multi-tool gizmos, you must get yourself one right now. This incredibly handy device equipped with 16 tools, including knives, pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, a strap cutter, a cleaning rod/brush adapter for firearms, an oxygen tank wrench, bottle and can openers, and a saw. A Leatherman OHT is a 100% one-hand-operable multi-tool, designed for military folks in mind, but every outdoors person and handy-person will appreciate the one-handed operation of all of the tools.
Charging Station
We love our cordless tools because they are mobile, but at the same time, we always have to schedule time and remember to charge the battery. So you absolutely have to have spare batteries, but a good charging station is a very convenient thing to have by your side so you can charge your spare batteries. Now, Bosch is trying to change the way we use and charge our power tools. Bosch was the world’s first supplier to enable the advantages of inductive energy transfer a.k.a wireless charging to be used with cordless tools. This unique system consists of induction charging station and special battery with Care Charging technology. Simply place these 18v […]
E-Bikes Are Finally Catching On – What’s the Buzz About?
The Electric Vehicle market place is an exciting and rapidly changing environment. While electric motors and even cars have been around for some time now there has been a relatively slow uptake globally for electric transport (until now). E-bikes are a different story. In the super growth cities of China the acceptance, usage and integration of Electric Bicycles is phenomenal. In fact this year alone China will manufacture and sell over 6 million electric bicycles for its domestic market alone. With populations in the larger cities pushing 15 – 20 million people personal transport is a huge logistic, environmental and economic issue. Electric Bicycles are by far the most efficient personal motorized transport product available. In any city with high population densities the function of a power assisted bicycle makes perfect sense.
Most commuters both at home and abroad average less than 25 miles to and from their place of work. The average cost of a car to run back and forth from work to home is over $150 per week. The Electric Bicycle makes commuting in urban areas a breeze. The combination of pedal and power assistance allows commuters to travel distances of up to 30 miles for around 5 – 10 cents per day per charge! I would challenge any one to find a cheaper motorized transport option that makes almost no noise with no pollution! And there is no need to fear for the safety of your bike when you park it, because technologically advanced locks, like abus mini u lock, offer strength, durability and protection you can count on. MWC 2017 Coolest Gadgets: From AR Toys to Personal Transportation
The Mobile World Congress 2017 has been packed with huge smartphone announcements as always. We’ve seen latest launches from everyone except Samsung and Apple. But not every device at MWC is a phone or tablet. Some pretty cool gadgets were presented over four days of the congress and here are five we though were the most fun.
Xperia Touch
Sony is finally commercializing the Android projector that allows users to interact with any surface as if it is a touch screen. It has built-in speakers and can project against both horizontal and vertical surface. With the price of over $1500, this device won’t become a widespread household item, but it certainly showcases Sony’s potential for innovations.

Nokia 3310
The Nokia’s legendary unbreakable 3310 has been reinvented. Yes, it is technically a mobile phone, but it is nothing like the new smartphones we got the chance to see. Feature-wise, it’s still a simple phone, but it certainly strikes the nostalgia nerve of those who have owned its glorious grandfather. The phone includes a 2MP camera, 2.4 inch color screen, and it’s super affordable at just above $50. Oh, and it comes with Snake! Whether it is going to sell as the hype suggests is yet to be seen. Change the Way You Commute: Make Your Ride to Work Fun
You love your job: after years of education, hundred hours of voluntary work, many applications and job interviews, you have finally landed a job that you enjoy working. You also love your house: it’s in a pleasant neighborhood and it’s big enough for your family that includes kids and a dog.
There is just one problem: your commute is an absolute nightmare. It is 45 minutes each way, on bad days more than an hour, and it’s exhausting. You gave up your hobbies, because you are just too tired, you have very little time for your family because you are getting up early and getting home late every day. You can’t help but think what you could do with all the time you are spending stuck in traffic breathing in those nasty exhaust fumes, and it’s making you miserable.
This is the unfortunate reality of over 100 million commuters in the U.S, and many more around the world. Commuting to work every day makes people very unhappy. According to a 2012 paper published in the “Journal of Economic Psychology” by Christian Kroll, on a list of 16 activities, commuting was rated the least favorite, behind work, home chores and child care. And it’s only getting longer.
In an interesting article in Washington Post the author mentions the research from the U.S. Census Bureau, according to which it now takes the average worker 26 minutes to travel to work. That is nearly 20% more than in 1980’s. Roughly a quarter of American commutes are less than 15 minutes one way. On the other hand, nearly 17 percent of us have commutes that are 45 minutes or longer. […]
Beginners Guide to Building a Perfect Web Page
Building a website is a lot more complicated than you might think, and good planning workflow is essential. The first step is to clarify the basic idea of the site and its objectives and recipients and create a solid and effective concept. It is good idea to sketch the general structure of the site on the paper: navigation type, number of pages, links, content and graphics.
After sketching and wireframing it is time to create graphics and all that is visual design. Always keep in mind the concept and guidelines above, but this is where we can give vent to our creativity using graphics, typography, photography, textures.
The next step is web development. It’s up to developer to turn the blueprint he got from the designer into code and make sure it looks good. The attention to detail in the design should be matched by the attention to detail by the front-end developer. There should be absolutely no difference between the design comp and a fully coded screenshot. […]
Wireless Charging for The New iPhone: The Real Deal or Just a Hype
Wireless charging technology has been around for the past few years. The wireless smartphone chargers have already been supported by companies like Samsung, Nokia and Google. This year, the iPhone may finally take advantage of the wireless charging technology, at least there have been some indications from the Apple headquarters that the company is starting to take the concept very seriously.
The biggest contributor to the rumors may be the fact that the company has quite recently joined the Wireless Power Consortium. The consortium of over 200 members is the group behind Qi, a wireless charging standard that allows you to wirelessly charge a compatible device’s battery using induction transfer, without cables.
The Qi wireless charging system is nothing new for Apple, as the modified version of the Qi wireless charging system was used for the Apple Watch. Of course, charging the Apple Watch was only possible by using Apple-specific wireless chargers.
With the experience with wireless charging technology, Apple has decided to make the next step and implement the system into the upcoming iPhone. Whether or not the wireless charging system that is implemented into the successor of the iPhone 7 would be universal Qi or Apple-specific Qi remains to be seen.
The new higher-end model iPhone will come with the 5.8″ OLED display, and rumor has it that this particular model of the iPhone will come with a glass casing that is reinforced by a steel frame. Since the glass casing allows for wireless charging it is very likely that the new model will have a built in Qi system support.
Before you get too excited, remember that this is all just a speculation. However, it is only a matter of time before Apple integrates wireless charging into the iPhone. But we have a feeling that it will be a while before we would be able to truly wirelessly charge our iPhones from the distance, without the need to place it on a charger device.
